Policy: for the “Spouse Add-On”
When presenting the Spouse Add-On to professional teams or clients, the following standards must be upheld to ensure clinical safety and operational clarity:
1. The “Primary Client” Mandate
It must be explicitly stated that the travel companion’s primary responsibility is the identified client. The Spouse Add-On is designed for social companionship and logistical convenience, not dual-client clinical management.
2. The “No-Care” Disclaimer
Clear boundaries regarding physical and medical assistance must be established at the outset:
-
Scope of Service: The add-on fee does not include physical assistance, medical monitoring, or specialized care for the spouse.
- Independent Status: The spouse is expected to be independent in their activities of daily living (ADLs).
3. Reclassification to “Second Client” Status
If the spouse requires any level of physical assistance or medical oversight, the service no longer qualifies for the Spouse Add-On. In these instances, the following protocol applies:
-
The arrangement must be billed at the “Second Companion Fee” rate.
-
This higher rate accounts for the increased liability, documentation, and labor required to monitor a second individual’s health and safety.
